[ COPYANA ]

STEP 00: WHAT IS COPYANA?

COPYANA is a lightweight text transfer utility designed specifically for BlackBerry smartphones and Windows PCs. It allows you to quickly transfer text between your computer and your BlackBerry over a local Wi-Fi network.

COPYANA can be useful for transferring anything from short notes and links to longer pieces of text. It also includes a Favorites section on the BlackBerry for storing frequently used text.

STEP 01: DOWNLOAD & INSTALLATION

First, download the COPYANA archive from our Downloads section.:

Inside the archive you will find two main files:

Both files are required for COPYANA to work. The .EXE file runs on your PC and handles the connection, while the .JAR file is installed and used on your BlackBerry.

You don't need to install a server on your PC — everything is available directly from the archive. However, you do need to install the JAR file. Simply transfer the file to your BlackBerry via USB or Bluetooth and install it.

Extract the archive to a convenient location on your PC.

STEP 02: SETTING UP

1. Start the PC server

On your PC, simply run the .EXE file. A console window will appear first, followed by the COPYANA server interface.

Keep the server running while you use COPYANA. The console and the program interface must remain open (unless you have finished working and want to shut it down).

Make sure that your PC and BlackBerry are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

2. Connection between your devices

If you haven't installed COPYANA on your phone yet, now is the perfect time to do so (simply run the .JAR file).

Once installed, launch it.

The software works both ways. This means you can exchange text from PC to BlackBerry and vice versa.

2.1. Open PC -> BLACKBERRY on your phone (and PC -> BB on PC).

2.2. Next, you need to enter the IP address displayed on the server's GENERAL page. It is possible that the IP in your phone app already matches, but if not, you need to update it.

Note: Be careful not to remove the "http://" at the very beginning, and make sure to add the port number at the end of the address. The default is 8080, but you can change it if that port is already being used by another program. If you haven't started anything else, leave everything as is and simply enter your IP address. The correct address is always displayed at the bottom of the server interface; make sure the details match.

STEP 03: INTERFACE & TOOLS

COPYANA is intentionally simple. There are only a few main tools, so you should be able to figure out most of the interface without this guide anyway. :)

PC / SERVER

The PC application acts as the bridge between your computer and your BlackBerry. It waits for incoming text from the phone and can also provide text to the BlackBerry when requested.

The server interface contains several sections for different operations:

PC → BB: Enter the text you want to transfer into the appropriate text box and use the available controls to send it to your BlackBerry.

BB → PC: This section is used when you want to receive text sent from the COPYANA application on your BlackBerry.

BLACKBERRY

The BlackBerry application contains two main transfer tools:

The server address is used by both tools. If you have already saved your PC server address, COPYANA will use it automatically.

The PC → BLACKBERRY section is useful when you have some text on your computer that you want to quickly move to your phone.

The BLACKBERRY → PC section works in the opposite direction. Enter your text on the BlackBerry and send it to the running PC server.

STEP 04: FAVORITES

COPYANA also includes a simple Favorites system for storing text directly on your BlackBerry.

You can save up to 20 Favorites. A Favorite can contain practically anything that can be stored as text: notes, links, passwords, symbols, commands, addresses, or any other text information you want to keep handy.

Favorites are stored locally on your BlackBerry, so they remain available even after closing and reopening COPYANA.

When adding a new Favorite, it is automatically assigned a color. You can later open the Favorite and edit its contents, delete it, or change its color.

Each Favorite has a small colored square next to it. These colored squares make it easier to visually distinguish different entries at a glance.

COPYANA currently provides several pastel colors to choose from, including White, Lilac, Pink, Green, Yellow, Lime, Blue, and Cyan.

The Favorites list is limited to 20 entries. Once all 20 slots are occupied, you will need to delete an existing Favorite before adding a new one.

STEP 05: THAT'S IT!

That's pretty much all there is to it! Once the PC server is running and your BlackBerry is connected to the same Wi-Fi network, COPYANA is ready to transfer text in both directions.

The application was designed to be small, simple, and practical — especially for older BlackBerry devices where modern cloud-based solutions may no longer be available or convenient.

Enjoy COPYANA!

STEP 05.1: TROUBLESHOOTING

Optional section: If COPYANA is already working correctly, you can safely skip this part. This section is here for situations where something doesn't work as expected.

PC and BlackBerry cannot connect

PC → BlackBerry does not work

Check that the PC server is running and that the correct server address is saved in COPYANA. If the connection works but no text is transferred, try sending a short piece of plain text first.

BlackBerry → PC does not work

Make sure the PC server is running and that the BB → PC section is being used on the server. Also check the server address saved in COPYANA.

The server window closes immediately

Try launching the .EXE file again and check whether Windows is displaying a security or firewall warning. If Windows asks whether the application should be allowed through the firewall, allow it on your local/private network.

If you are still having problems, double-check that you are using the correct version of both the .EXE server and the .JAR application.
